Stalagtroll

STALAGTROLL

Stalagtrolls are stronger, more resilient cousins to surface dwelling trolls. That they tend to be considerably stupider too is a trait that has been celebrated after the fact by many a would-be victim.

Standing nearly ten feet tall and with thick rubbery flesh capable of withstanding axe blows arrow volleys, they are often enslaved by Cragtrow clans to use as guards or shock troops. Indeed, it was a division of Stalagtrolls which first breached the gates of Stonewatch during the Great War. A single Stalagtroll is more than capable of matching any three dwarven warriors in combat. Their effectiveness in combat is further assisted by their fast-healing metabolism.

Unlike their surface dwelling brethren, Stalagtrolls are not particularly vulnerable to fire, the rigors and heat of underground living having hardened their flesh. They do possess poor eyesight, however, and can easily be blinded by light sources more powerful than a standard torch, a tactic which was employed during the Great War to allow dwarven shock troops to close ranks on them and take them down.  The Cragtrow, wise to this strategy, were known to outfit their Stallagtrolls with blinders to compensate. Indeed, even today, years after the war’s end, it is not uncommon to encounter Stallagtrolls in the depths still wearing the headgear fitted onto them by their former masters.

STALAGTROLL

Tremor Worm

TREMOR WORM

The dwarves of Stonewatch have long had a symbiotic if uneasy relationship with the rock burrowing beasts known as tremor worms. Though few dwarves care to accidentally venture into the lair of one of these creatures, it also cannot be denied that the tunnels left behind by tremor worms have often been used as the basis for new mine shafts.

Growing up to twenty feet long, these powerful creatures can dig through all but the densest of rock. Though not carnivorous by nature, they are known to be highly territorial and will attack anything that invades their domain. Blind and not particularly intelligent, they are highly attuned to vibrations in the ground, which they use to find both potential mates as well as intruders. Indeed, even the most fleet-footed of thieves find it difficult to sneak past them unnoticed.

Tremor worms are covered in a thick, resilient skin covered in granite-like protrusions. This renders them difficult to injure in battle, making their hides greatly prized by armor smiths throughout the vast dwarven kingdom.

TREMOR

Dwarven Bombard

Durunn Granitebane

Class: Bombard

“You can keep your bloody bards and minstrels. A good explosion is all the music my ears need.”

If there is one word that Durunn Granitebane’s friends would use to describe him, it would be dangerous. If asked for two, they would add unpredictable.

Born to the merchant owners of an alchemical supply shop, young Durunn quickly developed a fascination for making things explode. The fire and chaos resulting from an incendiary mix of ingredients was to him what the glitter of gold was to his kinsmen.

Though quick-tempered and often as volatile as the mixtures he employed, as an adult Durunn rose quickly through the ranks thanks to an aptitude for all things explosive – refusing to let even the densest of rock stand in his way for long.  While his complete and utter disregard for his own safety often left his comrades betting on how long it would be until he was a victim of his own carelessness, even they could never deny the results of his handiwork, often opening tunnels to new and ever richer veins of ore.

BOMBARD

Dwarven Thief

So here is the Third character to the new board game BENEATH

Morbar Bloodhand

Class: Thief

“The fastest way to get rich is to let others dig out what’s already yours.”
The Bloodhands are among the youngest of the dwarven clans, but quickly became one of their most infamous. Where the other great families who inhabit the treacherous mines of Stonewatch rely on their strength of arms and the sweat of their brows to enrichen themselves, they know all too well they must continually sleep with one eye open. Many a dwarf has lain his head down at night, only to be rewarded for his hard labor with a slit throat and stolen coin purse. For where there is gold, the greedy fingers of the Bloodhands are never far away, always waiting for an opportune moment to snatch it up.

THIEF

Dwarven Hero

So here is the Second character to the new board game BENEATH

Errol Hammerfist

Class: Warrior

“I will face my destiny with a sharp axe and shining teeth.”
The Hammerfists are one of the few among the dwarven clans who can trace their lineage all the way back to Thargrin Hammerfist, first of the dwarven kings that the great god Grum Silverbeard carved from solid rock and breathed life into. Wherever there has been danger that has threatened the clans of Stonewatch, there has been a Hammerfist present to teach it the true meaning of dwarven courage.

Dwarven Miner

So here is the first character to the new board game BENEATH

Wodin Irongaard

Class: Miner

“The true measure of a dwarf is in how hard he’ll dig to earn his supper.”
Wodin Irongaard was content with his life. He worked in the mines of Stonewatch, digging for ore, day in and day out. His was a simple existence of hard labor followed by nights of good company at the local tavern. Though he never failed to answer the call of his people whenever there came a need – whether it be against the race known as the defiled or the occasional dwarven Bloodhand – he otherwise left the concerns of the kingdom to those more inclined to deal with it.
